New, movable bird spikes keep power towers steady!

2026-07-21

When passing by power transmission towers, you’ve surely noticed those densely packed metal spikes. They were originally designed to prevent birds from nesting and to ensure the safety of the power supply, but the reality is often a real headache—because many birds have actually learned to “make their homes” in the gaps between the spikes, and some traditional anti-bird spikes seem to have become the very foundations of their nests. Faced with these highly adaptable birds, traditional static anti-bird measures are no longer sufficient.

To help power plant operations and maintenance personnel solve this problem, Shenzhen Zhenquniao has introduced a cutting-edge innovation—the new dynamic bird-deterrent spikes! How do they keep birds “at bay”? Because they’re “alive”! In terms of design philosophy, this marks a leap from “passive defense” to “active deterrence.” Next, Shenzhen Zhenquniao Technology will take you through our new bird-deterrent spikes.

The device has a radial hemispherical structure, with spikes evenly distributed across different levels; its effective bird-deterrent range is approximately 1 meter. Its most distinctive feature is its ability to move: whenever the wind blows or a bird comes into contact with it, the spikes begin to rotate and sway. This constantly changing dynamic effect makes it difficult for birds to adapt, so they naturally stay away.

In addition to moving, the surface of the new bird-deterrent spikes features a mirror-like reflective effect. When exposed to light, they create dynamic, radial reflections that are dazzling and uncomfortable for birds. This further enhances the bird-deterrent effect, causing birds to avoid the tower area from a distance and giving them the time and space to take evasive action.

The new bird-deterrent spikes are also very convenient to install and maintain. During installation, simply tighten two bolts to secure the device to the tower structure; the device will automatically unfold once it is upright, eliminating the need to manually spread the steel spikes apart. When maintenance is required, simply grasp the central spikes, lift them vertically, and tilt them to ±90 degrees; the spikes will retract in 5 to 10 seconds, causing absolutely no interference with the workers’ normal operations.

This new type of bird deterrent addresses several long-standing issues with traditional bird deterrents: short-lived effectiveness, limited coverage, and inconvenient maintenance. For the power grid, it is a highly practical upgrade solution for bird control.
