Birdcage on Pole Tower: Ecological Power Grid Bird Attracting Device, Making Power and Ecology Win-Win

2025-09-15

The Oriental White Stork prefers to build nests at high elevations. Consequently, in areas with few tall trees, power transmission towers standing over 40 meters tall have become the preferred nesting sites for these storks. However, birds nesting on these towers can easily cause interphase discharges between power lines. Additionally, their acidic droppings conduct electricity, causing wires to short-circuit through the bird droppings and insulators. This leads to equipment corrosion, short circuits, and circuit breaker trips, compromising grid reliability while also endangering the birds themselves.

How can we ensure grid safety while accommodating birds' nesting needs? Recently, State Grid Dongying Power Supply Company installed artificial nests on utility poles to guide birds to perch in safe locations along power lines. Activity in these areas won't cause line failures, thereby mitigating both the impact of bird activity on the grid and the risk of electrocution for the birds.

This artificial bird nest, also known as a pole-mounted bird cage, is our Shenzhen Zhenqu Bird Technology's Pole-Mounted Bird Cage ZQN-DL-NL. Crafted from corrosion-resistant, weather-resistant stainless steel, it is designed for long-term outdoor use. Its structure consists of a stainless steel frame welded with dense mesh, ensuring both sturdiness and stability. This design effectively withstands strong winds, preventing nesting materials from scattering onto power equipment. Simultaneously, it provides a safer habitat for young birds.

During installation, the ZQN-DL-NL bird cage is typically placed on non-energized sections of the tower or on crossarms distant from insulators and conductors, ensuring it does not interfere with the normal operation of power lines. Of course, bird cages are not a universal solution. Some "stubborn" birds will still choose nesting sites according to their habits. For such situations, in high-risk areas unsuitable for bird nesting, bird deterrents can be installed in conjunction with the cages to scientifically guide birds away from hazardous zones.
